If you have to try and catch up its usually better to just let them go (those type of people tend to swirve in and out of traffic so instigating them by try to catch up is only gonna make the situation become very sour) and if you saw the intrepid getting ready to merge (and yes they do take there sweet time) just slow down and call it quits. I know racing should be at the track but when done always look at your environment constantly for any possible potential hazards. If you spot anything just let your foot off the gas.
